Clients always ask, "why is it so expensive to get my hair done?" Well, the short answer is, it costs us, as stylists, a lot to do your hair. When you factor in the cost of the color, shampoo, conditioner, styling products, and other various supplies, it adds up to more than you would think! When all is said and done,we base our prices on what we pay out to do your hair.

For a lot of us, when the economy took a turn for the worse, we didn't raise our prices even though the cost of ALL of our supplies did. (Drastically) In a normal business, rising costs are passed onto the consumer. In the beauty industry, it doesn't always work that way. Stylists, who actually care about their clients, keep letting rising costs eat into their profits just to keep their clients happy and in their chair. It's the "cost" of doing business.

How can you help keep costs lower? Pay with cash or a check! Credit card processing companies charge so much for their services. They charge swipe fees, maintenance fees, annual fees, compliance fees, card type fees. Etc... In the end, it's thousands of dollars of unnecessary money spent. If our costs stay low, then the prices we charge will not go up.

So take the extra few minutes to stop at an ATM or throw your checkbook in your purse. It may mean the difference between staying with the stylist you know and love, or having to start all over trying to find a new one.

Food for thought! Just sayin'

Mention you read this blog post and receive $10 off a cut or $15 off a cut and color. Pay with cash and receive $15 off a cut and $20 off a cut and color!

Gotta love those eCards! Some say exactly what I am thinking!

Think about this the next time you have the itch to try something new by yourself. It's hardly EVER a good idea! At the very least, consult with a professional hairstylist. Some are jerks and won't help you, but there are a lot out there that would rather help you do it properly than to have to attempt a full on and impossible color correction.

I'm sure most patrons of salons have heard that "you don't tip the owner of the salon". I have absolutely no idea where that came from, but it is silly. If your hairstylist happens to be the owner of the salon, yay for you! If they are doing your hair, they are still a stylist and they are doing the work. They just happen to own the business too. A tip is a gratuity. It's basically a "thank you" for a job well done. If you like/love what your stylist has done, show some love!

Disclaimer: I am NOT a salon owner, but I love the owner of the salon I work at. He not only runs a successful salon, but he is a darn good hairstylist to boot! Xoxo

Hair static causing you to melt down?!?
It sure was giving me a hard time until a few days ago when I realized I had purchased a shampoo last winter just for this purpose!! Super score for me!!

Goldwell  Winter Care Shampoo!!!! Straight from the bottle, "Instantly feel and see intensive care with anti-static control for winter-stressed hair throught the Anti-static System with Orange Milk. Gently cleanses and delivers moisture to hair and skin. Protects hair from the effects of dry winter air. For visibly calm hair and noticeably more suppleness." After shampooing my hair and conditioning as usual, my hair did feel a bit heavier than it normally does, but I didnt mind it because the static was totally gone!!! It wasnt to the point that it was flat or anything, just a little heavier. Although it is a moisturizing shampoo, my hair didn't get oily as fast as it normally does. I must remember to stock up on this shampoo before Winter ends since it is a seasonal product.

I also discovered that styling products that contain silicone work well too! Davines' No 1 Oil Non Oil for Wizards is my top pick! Put it in your wet hair and style as usual. It adds amazing natural shine and a bit of texture so it will hold, but keep in mind that the more heat styling you add to your hair (blow dryer, flat iron, curling iron) the more moisture you are pulling out taking you back to square one! I just put about a nickle size squeeze in my hands, emulsified it, and stringed it through the ends of my hair. With the remaining product left in my palm I lightly put it towards my scalp. It is important at this point to comb the product through to make sure it is evenly distributed. I do blow dry my hair, but thats it! If the static comes back because I added too much heat, I will flip my lid!

I was thinking I would give the how to videos a go! Stay tuned!!

The future Mrs. Wolf wanted to add a little bit of length and a little fullness. These extensions are track extensions and are woven in and held with silicon tubes. They will last up to about 8 weeks. The tracks can be reused over and over making this extension technique affordable for anyone wanting to change it up a bit.

Brazilian Blowout is a Keratin-based smoothing treatment. It smooths the cuticle of the hair and adds an amazing natural shine. Frizzy hair is a thing of the past. I didn't do this one. Its actually me!! My good friend and fellow stylist, Shannon Ely did this, but its a great before and after. My hair was finger dried for the after picture. The treatment is very low maintainance. Perfect for the "wash and go" person on the move!
